Designer Gillian Lazanik of Affecting Spaces shares her own home makeover that’s not only functional for her family of four, but reflects their personality. See how she created a bright and open space with Scandinavian design influences, playful touches of color and a clean and minimal aesthetic.

How To Design A Home For A Couple With Different Styles

Modern House Design with Simplicity as the Main Idea of the Style
Modern House Design with Simplicity as the Main Idea of the Style

THis modern house is known as Four Seasion House. This green house is located in Yun-Lin County which is a model of happy rural simplicity.

The first impression of the base is surrounded by cropland, bamboo groves, and country roads. Also, there are several trees on this base.

We retained the existing trees and deployed the house shied away all the trees because we believe that natural species are the valuables.

The architecture always respect for the environment,so we would reduce the impact of the nature.

Therefore, the designer’s aim is to make the two-story building in harmony with the 30 feet height tree.

The house design can be used by five member family. On the ground floor is a parking space, living room, a kitchen and a bedroom.

Our sight can look through from living room to dining room and kitchen. Each room opens onto the corridor, which is near by the stairs.

The stairs combine all the spaces, making the whole space more fluid and consecutive.

We can have a courtyard view through the French window, which is beside the stairs.

While going upstairs and downstairs, we could feel the tree outside the window growing over time. The center of the house is the stairs as the tree in our life.

While entering this house,we could see the sunlight through the tree and immerse ourselves in sunlight.Sunrise to sunset, we could feel the variety of the light and winds blowing even staying in the house.Along with the changes of seasons, the view changes, too.

There is no boundary, inside and outside of the house remain the same.

Shipping Container House Builder - Beautiful House is Created from 8 Containers
Shipping Container House Builder - Beautiful House is Created from 8 Containers

It is located in Pichincha, Ecuador.
The projects in which we get involved come as an answer to the understanding of all parties and to the singularities of each particular environment. Our intention is not to look for predetermined solutions, so the ideas for this house are born from wishes, experiences and the clients’ ways of living.

When the owner was a little kid, he wanted to decipher the mechanisms of old clocks. His passion for mechanics drove him into motorbikes and Land Rover cars. He was interested in a very didactic, utilitarian and dismantable house (in the understanding of the pieces in the manner of the mechanics of these vehicles). Constructive solutions had to be visible, no matter their manufacture. When we understood this direct connection to metal, the idea and the desire to live in a container house appeared. One of the main reasons to experiment with this material was the energy saving. These objects become waste after their life cycle (there are so many in the world that it becomes a problem). When changing their function and making them habitable, not only are we giving them a new use but we are also building in a clean manner. Design wise we worked towards simplification using only the necessary pieces.

Modern House Design with Cool Glass Cubes and the Expansive Views of Sunsets over the Pacific
Modern House Design with Cool Glass Cubes and the Expansive Views of Sunsets over the Pacific

Modern House Design- Cool glass cubes and the expansive views of sunsets over the Pacific define the house together. And those sunsets come every single night. Let’s not forget that. But even aside from the scenery – what a house. Cool blue tinted glass and red mangaris wood (primarily from Indonesia and Brazil) juxtapose the solid and transparent. Designed by legendary Patrick Killen, this stunning modern home sits under a dramatically cantilevered roof on a sloped street in Manhattan Beach, CA.
The facade was created from alternating cubes of blue-tinted glass and warm, red mangaris wood. The slope of the hill emphasizes the cantilevered roof.

Concrete and glass gives the entrance a very loft-like look.
The family room is off the entryway – facing the street view.
The deck outside the family room, on the ground floor, sits beneath the second floor master-bedroom sitting room. Which has a glass floor (wait for it).
This blue glass cube holds the dining table.
The open kitchen area also incorporates a breakfast bar.
And what a kitchen it is.

The master bedroom has a glass cube sitting room – the large glass cube on the downhill side of the slope.

With a glass floor!
The living area, on the top floor, opens to that magnificent Pacific sunset that you never tire of.
Views can become a large part of a house – even though they aren’t physically part of the structure.
When the sun goes down – light your own fire.
The house is complete with a top of the line AV/entertainment system, AC, radiant floors and even a 3-car garage

Modern House Design with Large Spans and Slender Beams Architectural Style
Modern House Design with Large Spans and Slender Beams Architectural Style

Modern House Design - The design of this functional residence, which emphasized visual connection between living areas, features grand clean modern lines.
The integration of most rooms with the living/entertaining areas, enabled the use of ample glazed doors and window openings over large spans; all framed by spectacular surrounding scenery.
The search for materials that promoted contrasting balance and yet, defined each element in its totality, has driven the architectural finishes palette.

This design fostered large spans and slender beams, which created a structural challenge, given the unrefined capability at the work site. Lengthy meetings with the structural engineer eventually provided the most cost effective solution.

Despite accommodating all mechanical services in dedicated plant rooms, the building facades remained uncompromised, giving prominence to high ceilings and cross ventilation into living areas via automated high-level windows.

Modern House Design - The use of skylights permitted efficient natural lighting and ventilation to the ensuites, walk-in robes and bedrooms circulation areas.
